Damien Rice feat. Lisa Hannigan- Rootless Tree

lisa hannigan and some guy.

edit: i’ve decided to add a second video. this is 9 crimes from the same performance. i can’t decide which of these songs i like more. i don’t think you can lose, really. they both have wonderful voices that complement each other. so, enjoy today’s double rainbow.

Blackstreet - Don’t Leave

This song has been stuck in my head for a couple of weeks now.  I have random outbursts where i say to people “if.. you… take… your… love away from me, i’ll go crazy, crazy, crazy insane.”  This is from the great time period where there were still r&b groups and the groups actually new how to sing.  When teddy riley was rocking out on the vocoder and playing homage to the original roger troutman.  This song is the truth, can’t deny it at all.

P.S. the green screen in this video is almost worse then it on ichat.

Erykah Badu - Fall in Love (Your Funeral)

First, I would chalk it up and fall in love with erykah, put the baduizm on me, screw it.  But you gotta love the tongue and cheek aspect of this song.  She knows all about that baudizm she puts on folks (jay electronica, common, andre 3000, and the d.o.c.).  This was one of the stand out tracks for me from New Amerykah pt. 2.  This album sounds a little more accessible and “in the box” for most listeners.  I prefer my erykah a little further out there, but good album anyway.

Local Natives- Airplanes

hmmm…i don’t have much to say about this one. i heard it for the first time yesterday? the day before? i like the song, and i plan to check out more of their stuff in the near future. they’ve been compared to grizzly bear, which is good. i don’t know if that’s fair or not. we’ll see. enjoy.

Blink 182 - I Miss You

Blink182 is one of the greatest garage rock bands of all time. Not only did they put together some high quality music (as evidenced in this song) but they were also fun and silly and could make you laugh. And believe me, that is just as important as the high brow stuff. Dysentery Gary and The Party Song still make me laugh after all of these years. Sometimes I get a little bit tired of everyone trying to say something (and failing a lot of the time) and just want to put on something that’s fun. So here’s to fun. It’s Friday – go out and take off your shirts and shoes and jackets and enjoy!

Blink 182 - I Miss You

(I miss you miss you)
Hello there the angel from my nightmare
The shadow in backround of the morgue
The unsespecting victim of darkness in the valley
We can live like Jack and Sally if we want
Where you can always find me
And we’ll have Halloween on Christmas
And in the night we’ll wish this never ends
We’ll wish this never end

Where are you and I’m so sorry
I cannot sleep I cannot dream tonight
I need somebody and always
This sick strange darkness comes creeping on so haunting everytime
And as I stared I counted the webs from all the spiders
catching things and eating their insides
Like indecision to call you
And hear your voice of treason
Will you come home and stop this pain tonight
stop this pain tonight

Don’t waste your time on me you’re already the voice inside my head(6x)

I miss you miss you(6x)

Matchbox Twenty - Leave

mb20

Rob Thomas is one of the most underrated song writers of the late 90s/2000s. Don’t believe me?

I’m not saying there wasn’t nothing wrong
I just didn’t think you’d ever get tired of me
I’m now saying we ever had the right to hold on
I just didn’t wanna let it get away from me

WHAT?!?! If that’s not the truth about how a lot of relationships end, I don’t know what is. This is one of my favorite songs off of one of my favorite albums. Mad Season has stayed on steady rotation for almost a decade in my house and its not going anywhere. If you have the album, dust it off and pop it in your stereo (or search it on your itunes) and give it a listen. If you don’t have it, check it out.

Enjoy!

Matchbox Twenty - Leave

It’s amazing
How you make your face just like a wall
How you take your heart and turn it off
How I turn my head and lose it all

It’s unnerving
How just one move puts me by myself
There you go just trusting someone else
Now I know I put us both through hell

I’m not saying there wasn’t nothing wrong
I just didn’t think you’d ever get tired of me
I’m now saying we ever had the right to hold on
I just didn’t wanna let it get away from me

But if that’s how it’s gonna leave
Straight out from underneath
Then we’ll see who’s sorry now
If that’s how it’s gonna stand, when
You know you’ve been depending on
The one you’re leaving now
The one you’re leaving out

It’s aggravating
How you threw me on and you tore me out
How your good intentions turn to doubt
The way you needed time to sort it out

I’m not saying there wasn’t nothing wrong
I just didn’t think you’d ever get tired of me
I’m now saying we ever had the right to hold on
I just didn’t wanna let it get away from me

But if that’s how it’s gonna leave
Straight out from underneath
Then we’ll see who’s sorry now
If that’s how it’s gonna stand, when
You know you’ve been depending on
The one you’re leaving now
The one you’re leaving out

The one you’re leaving now
The one you’re leaving out

I’m not saying there wasn’t nothing wrong
I just didn’t think you’d ever get tired of me

But if that’s how it’s gonna leave
Straight out from underneath
Then we’ll see who’s sorry now
If that’s how it’s gonna stand, when
You know you’ve been depending on
The one you’re leaving now
The one you’re leaving out

Tell me is that how it’s going to end
When you know you’ve been depending on
The one you’re leaving now
And the one you’re leaving out

The one you’re leaving now
The one you’re leaving out

The 5.6.7.8’s - I’m Blue

I had thought up a whole lot to say about the 5.6.7.8’s a while ago but I have a headache now. So I’ll keep it short and sweet.

They’re an awesome lil girl rock group from Japan that you’ve probably heard before (wooo hoooo, woooo hooo hooo). Quentin Tarentino has a great ear for music and is probably largely responsible for any exposure they’ve gotten stateside.

I like dancing around to them and hopefully you will too. Enjoy!

The 5.6.7.8’s - I’m Blue

I’m blue-oo-oo oo-oo, doo-be-doo-be-doo-be-doo.
I’m blue-oo-oo oo-oo, doo-be-doo-be-doo-be-doo.
I’m blue-oo-oo, I’m blue, doo-be-doo-be-doo-be-blue.

I dropped a penny in the well,
Hopin’ you would come back soon.
A fortune teller told me,
My love with you-ooo was through.
I hope she was wrong,
‘Cause you been gone too long. Come home.

I’m blue-oo-oo oo-oo, doo-be-doo-be-doo-be-doo.
I’m blue-oo-oo oo-oo, doo-be-doo-be-doo-be-doo.
I’m blue-oo-oo, I’m blue, doo-be-doo-be-doo-be-blue.

Every night about two,
My love for you comes tumblin’ down.
(I can’t stand being here alone. )
I start to a-feelin’ and a-fumblin’,
But you ain’t nowhere around.
(I hope her reading was wrong. )
I hope she was wrong,
‘Cause you been gone too long. Come home.

I’m blue-oo-oo oo-oo, doo-be-doo-be-doo-be-blue.
I’m blue-oo-oo oo-oo, doo-be-doo-be-doo-be-blue.
I’m blue-oo-oo, I’m blue, doo-be-doo-be-doo-be-blue.

Tanya Morgan feat. Phontizzle- She’s Gone

the group with a girl’s name. brooklyn + cincinnati. i first heard about this group a few years ago. they’ve been on the grind for a while now, putting out hits left and right. unfortunately, it doesn’t seem that too many people notice. i won’t claim to be their biggest fan, but i do like them, and i do intend to delve more into their catalog than i have to date. i’ve liked most of what i’ve heard from them, so it’s a safe bet that i’ll be impressed. if you want to see a lighter side, check out this video. it’s clear they have a good sense of humor. enjoy.

Trace Adkins- Every Light in the House is On

the country music i know tends to date from my years in middle school. my mother used to listen to the local news on the radio every morning. that station played country music and only country music. i was introduced to vince gill, dolly parton, johnny cash, randy travis, clint black, tim mcgraw, and others (i only named the people i liked). i heard this song during a special performance of some kind. i have no idea why i was watching it, but i’m glad i did. the song has stuck with me since then. it had to because i don’t particularly care for country music. therefore, i don’t own much of it, and i never listen to it. but something about this song stayed with me. i find myself singing it from time to time. it’s well-written, it’s touching…it’s a lot of things. most importantly, it’s good. well, i think so. i hope you do to0. enjoy.

Hall & Oates - She’s Gone

First off, John Oates has an all-time great mustache.  Hall & Oates did it big in the late 70s and early 80s.  Everything else has came back from that time, so let’s bring back John Oates’ mustache.  So the last couple of days i’ve been stuck and a hall & oates state of mind.  I really want to go to a karaoke bar and do the whole catalog.  The song featured above is one where John Oates takes more a singing role and sings about a lost lover.  They truly go for it here and it’s lovely 80s ballad cheese, enjoy.

-schwing

Everybody’s high on consolation
Everybody’s trying to tell me what’s right for me
My daddy tried to bore me with a sermon
but it’s plain to see that they can’t comfort me

Sorry Charlie for the imposition
I think I’ve got it, got the strength to carry on
I need a drink and a quick decision
Now it’s up to me, ooh what will be

Chorus:
She’s Gone Oh I, Oh I’d
better learn how to face it
She’s Gone Oh I, Oh I’d
pay the devil to replace her
She’s Gone - what went wrong

Up in the morning look in the mirror
I’m worn as her tooth brush hanging in the stand
my face ain’t looking any younger
now I can see love’s taken her toll on me

She’s Gone

Think I’ll spend eternity in the city
let the carbon and monoxide choke my thoughts away
and pretty bodies help dissolve the memories
but they can never be what she was to me

She’s Gone
